What can the Consulate do for you?

Consular services provided by the Consulate General of Uruguay in Chongqing

Identity and travel documents

  • Renewal of identity cards and passports
  • Issuance of a passport for the first time
  • Issuance of an emergency passport
  • Issuance of a safe-conduct document (valid for a single return trip to the Republic)

Authorizations for minors

  • Authorization for a minor to travel abroad
  • Authorization for a minor to reside in Uruguay
  • Authorization for a minor to obtain or renew a Uruguayan passport

Powers of attorney and authorizations

  • Power of Attorney Letter – Social Security Bank (BPS)
  • Power of Attorney Letter for AFAP reimbursement

Consular assistance and protection

  • Transfer of ashes or mortal remains
  • Assistance to injured persons
  • Information and guidance to family members in cases of accidents, deaths or disasters
  • Monitoring the situation of detained or imprisoned Uruguayan citizens and, under certain circumstances, transmitting messages to their relatives
  • Protection of minors or incapacitated persons, especially regarding guardianships or curatorships
  • Verification that citizens subject to legal proceedings have adequate defense and that due process is respected
  • Request for the whereabouts of persons before local authorities
  • Handling succession matters of Uruguayan citizens who have died abroad
  • Contact with family members to inform them about situations and needs
  • Guidance regarding legal, medical, notarial and other assistance

What can a Consulate not do for you?

Uruguayan consulates have specific functions of consular assistance and protection. However, they are not authorized to carry out the following procedures:

  • Carry out procedures related to visas issued by the People's Republic of China
  • Request the issuance, extension or modification of visas to enter or remain in the People's Republic of China
  • Request extensions of stay as a tourist
  • Intervene as a party in judicial proceedings or prevent a person from being sent to prison
  • Provide legal advice or act on your behalf before courts
  • Arrange preferential treatment in hospitals, prisons or other institutions in the country of residence
  • Perform functions belonging to travel agencies, airlines, banks or other private companies
  • Provide tickets or financial resources to return to Uruguay or continue a journey, except in exceptional cases of humanitarian repatriation
  • Pay personal expenses (accommodation, medical, legal assistance, etc.)
  • Arrange accommodation, employment, residence or work permits, nor act as a guarantor or surety
  • Regularize your immigration status before local authorities
