Personal user account application - BPS
Information on how to obtain a Personal User Account from the Social Security Bank (Banco de Previsión Social - BPS) while abroad and access its online services.
What is a BPS Personal User Account?
A BPS Personal User Account (Usuario personal BPS) is an individual, unique and non-transferable access identity that allows users to access the online services of the Social Security Bank (Banco de Previsión Social – BPS) that require authentication.
It may be requested by workers, retirees, pensioners and other persons registered with the BPS. It is not necessary to be currently receiving a benefit.
Among other functions, it allows users to:
- View and download their employment history.
- Access payment receipts and view benefits.
- View registered contributions, activities and personal affiliations.
- Receive notifications from the BPS.
- Initiate or continue certain procedures online.
- Update personal information through the services available.
The available features will depend on each person’s circumstances and the services enabled by the BPS.
Who may complete this procedure before the Consulate?
Adults who are registered with the BPS, reside within the jurisdiction of the Consulate General of Uruguay in Guangzhou (Consulado General del Uruguay en Guangzhou) and do not yet have a BPS Personal User Account (Usuario personal BPS).
The procedure may be completed by both Uruguayan and foreign nationals.
Requirements
To request a Personal User Account (Usuario personal), the following must be submitted:
- The identity document under which the person is registered with the BPS.
- A personal email address that is currently in use and is not associated with another BPS Personal User Account (Usuario personal BPS).
- A mobile telephone number and email address.
If the document registered with the BPS has expired, a valid passport or another valid identity document must also be submitted.
Foreign nationals who do not hold a Uruguayan identity card (cédula de identidad uruguaya) must submit the passport or foreign identity document under which they are registered with the BPS.
How is the procedure initiated?
An appointment must be requested by email, indicating:
- Full given name(s) and surname(s).
- Uruguayan identity card (cédula de identidad uruguaya) number or the number of the document registered with the BPS.
- Email address.
- Mobile telephone number.
- Country and place of residence.
On the day of the appointment, the interested person must appear in person before the Consulate with the original documentation. Once their identity has been verified, the corresponding application will be completed and signed.
The information will subsequently be forwarded to the BPS. The interested person will receive by email the instructions required to complete the activation process and set a password.
Important
The BPS Personal User Account (Usuario personal BPS) is individual and non-transferable. The password and other access details must not be shared with other persons.
Obtaining the account provides access to the BPS digital services but does not authorize another person to act on behalf of the account holder. For this purpose, the corresponding power of attorney (poder) must be granted and registered.
Cost
The procedure is free of charge.
