Uruguay once again participated in the 5th Guangzhou Ibero-American Film Festival through the Consulate General of Uruguay in Guangzhou. Its participation featured a screening of the Uruguayan film Mi Mundial, directed by Carlos Andrés Morelli and based on Daniel Baldi’s novel of the same name.

The event took place on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at the Consulate General of Mexico in Guangzhou and was free of charge. The screening was held before a full house, with 65 confirmed attendees and a waiting list of 30 people, reflecting strong interest among local and international audiences in Uruguayan cinema and culture.

Mi Mundial was selected for its ability to offer, through soccer, an intimate portrayal of Uruguayan identity, young people’s aspirations, family relationships, and sports as a space for belonging and social inclusion.

Uruguay’s participation was made possible thanks to the support of the Directorate General for Cultural Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Uruguayan Film and Audiovisual Agency (ACAU).
