Uruguay participated in the 26th edition of the China International Fair for Investment and Trade (CIFIT), held from 8 to 11 September in Xiamen, Fujian Province. CIFIT is one of China’s leading platforms dedicated to investment promotion and international economic cooperation.

The Consul General of Uruguay in Guangzhou, Matías Benítez, took part in the official opening activities, which were attended by Vice President of the People’s Republic of China Han Zheng, as well as in the investment forum dedicated to Latin America.

At the forum, Uruguay delivered the first country presentation, followed by Mexico and Argentina. The presentation highlighted Uruguay as an open, stable and predictable destination for foreign investment, offering equal treatment to domestic and foreign investors, access to international markets, available incentives and opportunities across a wide range of sectors.

Uruguay’s participation also provided an opportunity to highlight the country’s potential as a regional platform for Chinese companies interested in developing business and investment projects in Latin America, in line with CIFIT’s emphasis on promoting two-way investment.

The visit to Xiamen also served to continue the excellent relations historically maintained by the Consulate General with Fujian Province. This was the current Consul General’s first visit to the province, providing an opportunity to renew contacts with local authorities and counterparts.

Uruguay’s participation in CIFIT forms part of an ongoing effort to strengthen investment promotion and broaden its economic relationship with China, complementing an already well-established trade relationship with new opportunities for business cooperation, innovation and investment.
