General Power of Attorney or Special Power of Attorney
How do I start the procedure?
To start the procedure, you must have the following documentation:
- Valid identity document of the grantor
- Copy of the valid identity document of the proxy
- Information on the marital status and address of both parties
- Draft or template of the Power of Attorney to be granted
Once you have all the necessary documents ready, please request an appointment by sending an email to cghongkong@mrree.gub.uy with the required attachments, and on the day of your appointment, please come in person with all the documents.
Cost: HKD 2115 corresponding to the issuance of the first copy (the amount may vary according to the current exchange rate between the HKD and the US dollar). Payment is made by bank deposit on the day of the appointment.
What to do once the Power of Attorney has been granted?
Once the Power of Attorney has been issued by the Consulate-General, the document must be formalised:
Step 1: Once the first copy of the Power of Attorney issued by the Consulate-General has been obtained, and in order to be valid in Uruguay, the signature of the acting consular officer must be first legalised by the Legalisations and Apostilles Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uruguay, located at 1384 Cuareim Street, Montevideo.
Step 2: Once the consular officer’s signature has been legalised, the Power of Attorney must be registered before a Notary Public in Uruguay in order to have legal effect within the national territory.

- For people of legal age who wish to grant a power of attorney to a third party who is in Uruguay, so that he/she, in their name and representation, can carry out the procedure for which authorisation is granted.
