Consulate General of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay in Hong Kong

On 24 August, the opening ceremony for the photographic exhibition Gauchos—by renowned Uruguayan photographer Luis Fabini— took place in Hong Kong.

Gauchos invites viewers to immerse themselves in the essence of rural Uruguay, defined by the profound bond between man, horse, and soil.

Through striking black-and-white photographs, Fabini captures not only a long-standing tradition but also a living culture rooted in dignity, freedom, and honour. His images reveal gauchos as figures inseparable from the landscapes they inhabit.

Since 2021, this acclaimed exhibition has toured prestigious museums across the Americas, Europe, and Asia, including the National Art Museum of China and the United Nations Palace of Nations. Now, upon arriving in Hong Kong —specifically at Three Garden— Gauchos invites the local public and visitors alike to experience firsthand the beauty and cultural richness of the South American cowboy tradition.

The opening ceremony was attended by Ms. Luna Wu, a representative of the National Meat Institute of Uruguay (INAC), who spoke about the history and vital role of the institution in promoting our country's cattle-rearing tradition. Afterward, Consul-General Federico Lage led attendees through a guided tour, thus offering them a deeper look into the gaucho lifestyle.

The Consulate-General of Uruguay wishes to express its sincere gratitude to all the collaborators, officials, and friends of Uruguay who joined this event. In particular, this consular post wishes to highlight the support provided by  Uruguay’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Fund for the Promotion of Cultural Activities Abroad, INAC, and Champion REIT/Three Garden Road for bringing this exhibition to Hong Kong.

The exhibition will remain open to the public over the coming weeks.
