4 Million: Different Residences, One Uruguayan Nation

On August 25, all Uruguayans, wherever they may be, will be able to enjoy a concert by Rubén Rada, which will be shared by all Uruguayan embassies, consulates and missions abroad. This initiative adds to several others aimed at bringing closer together fellow countrymen and women living both inside and outside the country’s borders.

As part of the bicentennial celebrations of our nation’s independence, the Uruguayan Government is multiplying its efforts to connect with Uruguayans living abroad. For the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, facilitating and carrying out actions in this regard—through the Directorate General for Consular Affairs and Bonding—is a priority.

On June 18, on the eve of the anniversary of national hero José Gervasio Artigas’ birth, President Yamandú Orsi sent a letter to compatriots residing abroad. The letter was shared by Uruguayan representations as part of commemorations, flag pledge ceremonies, and on social media. “We are all Uruguayans—those who live within our territory and those who reside temporarily or permanently abroad,” reads the message sent to the country’s embassies and consulates.

In this context, Rubén Rada agreed to record a special concert for Uruguayans both at home and around the world. The recording will be shared on YouTube to mark August 25 and can be broadcast at all gatherings held as part of Uruguay’s bicentennial of independence.

In addition, Uruguay’s Channel 5 will join the initiative and broadcast the concert on August 26 at 9:00 p.m.

In this way, we bring an emblem of our culture to audiences both within and beyond our borders.
