New Emergency Alert System in Australia – AusAlert

The Consulate General of Uruguay in Sydney informs the Uruguayan community residing in Australia about the upcoming implementation of AusAlert, the new emergency alert system of the Australian Government. AusAlert is a national warning system that will allow emergency messages to be sent directly to compatible mobile devices located in areas affected by risk situations, such as natural disasters or other emergencies.
Prior to its final implementation, scheduled for October 2026, the system will undergo a national test throughout the country. On Monday, 27 July 2026, a test alert will be sent to all compatible mobile devices in Australia. The test will take place at 2:00 pm in New South Wales, the Australian Capital Territory, Queensland, Tasmania and Victoria; at 1:30 pm in the Northern Territory and South Australia; and at 12:00 pm in Western Australia. During the test, devices will receive an alert that may emit a siren-like sound for approximately 10 seconds, vibrate and display an on-screen message indicating that it is a test. No action will be required in response to this alert.
