Last Sunday, October 12th, the Third Latin American Football Tournament was held at the facilities of the Western Sydney Wanderers FC, jointly organized by the Consulates General of Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, El Salvador, Paraguay, and Uruguay in Sydney, Australia.

The event brought together a large and enthusiastic audience who came to support the participating teams, in a day that combined sport, music, dance, and gastronomy, reflecting the vibrant spirit and diversity of our Latin American communities in Australia.

This year, the tournament achieved a significant milestone with the introduction of two parallel competitions — men’s and women’s — marking an important step forward in promoting inclusion and gender equality within our regional community activities.

The event was made possible thanks to the invaluable support of the Western Sydney Wanderers FC, a premier division football club in Australia, as well as our main sponsor, LATAM Airlines, and the New South Wales Office of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).

Ambassador Crispin Conroy, Director of the DFAT Office in New South Wales, honoured us with his presence and presented the trophies and medals to the winning teams. The trophies were kindly offered by DFAT.

Now established as an annual tradition, the tournament aims to strengthen ties among Latin American communities in Sydney and to foster connection through sport, culture, and friendship.

The Consulate General of Uruguay extends its heartfelt gratitude and recognition to the players and coaches of the Uruguayan men’s and women’s teams for their enthusiasm, dedication, and sportsmanship. We also wish to acknowledge the families and friends who came to support and cheer for our teams throughout the day, proudly representing La Celeste.
