Birth Registration with the Civil Registry of Uruguay
Who is eligible to apply for this procedure?
Sons and daughters of Uruguayan nationals (Law 16.021) and grandchildren of Uruguayan nationals (Law 19.362) who are interested in acquiring Uruguayan nationality and were born in Australia, New Zealand, or another country under the jurisdiction of this Consulate General.
Requirements:
- Apostilled birth certificate from Australia or New Zealand, issued within the last 90 days.
- Copy of the Uruguayan birth certificate of the parent through whom nationality is acquired. In the case of registration through a Uruguayan grandparent, a copy of their Uruguayan birth certificate must also be provided.
- Valid identification documents of both parents.
- Two witnesses over 18 years of age, presenting valid identification (ID card and/or passport, driver’s licence or another photo ID). Witnesses may be direct relatives such as grandparents, uncles or aunts, etc.
- Completed application form (available at the bottom of this page).
Note: Please note that apostilles must be issued by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) or the New Zealand Department of Internal Affairs, as applicable.
Once you have carefully reviewed the above requirements, please request an appointment by sending an email to cgsydney@mrree.gub.uy, attaching all the required documents.
After verifying the information, you will receive a reply with the details of your appointment. You must attend in person at the Consulate on the indicated date and time, bringing the original versions of the required documents.
Cost: AUD 28. This amount may vary slightly depending on the current exchange rate between the Australian and US dollar. Payment is to be made on the day of your appointment via bank deposit in Australian dollars.
