Authorization for a Minor to Obtain or Renew a Uruguayan Passport

This procedure is intended for persons wishing to authorize a minor to obtain or renew a regular passport.

Required Documentation

  • Valid identity document of both mother and father.
  • Valid birth certificate of the minor (issued within the last 30 days). If the minor has not yet been registered with the Civil Registry of Uruguay, registration may be completed at the Consulate General in Toronto provided the birth occurred within this Consulate’s jurisdiction.
  • Copy of the minor’s valid identity document.
  • If one parent is deceased, the surviving parent must appear in person with a valid identity document and the deceased parent’s death certificate.

Authorization for a Minor to Reside in Uruguay

This procedure is intended for persons wishing to authorize a minor to reside in Uruguay. 

Procedure

Required Documentation

  • Valid identity document of the authorizing parent(s).
  • Valid birth certificate or birth registration of the minor (If Uruguayan, issued within the last 30 days if foreign, issued within the last year and duly apostilled.
  • Copy of the minor’s identity document.
  • Copy of the identity document of the responsible adult with whom the minor will reside in Uruguay.  

Note 

  • If the applicant appearing before the Consulate does not provide the original valid birth certificate of the minor, it must be presented by the person receiving the authorization.
  • If both parents grant authorization for the minor to reside in Uruguay, a copy of the identity document of the responsible adult who will complete the procedure in Uruguay must also be submitted.

Authorization for a Minor to Travel Abroad

This procedure is intended for persons wishing to authorize the departure of a minor from Uruguay.

To begin the process, the following documentation is required depending on whether the minor travels alone or accompanied.
If the Minor Travels Alone

Required Documentation

If the Minor travels alone:

  • Valid identity document of the authorizing parent(s).
  • Valid birth certificate or birth registration of the minor (issued within the last 30 days if foreign, issued within the last year and duly apostilled).
  • Copy of the minor’s valid identity document.  

If the Minor Travels Accompanied:

  • Valid identity document of the authorizing parent(s).
  • Valid birth certificate or birth registration of the minor (under the same validity requirements indicated above).
  • Copy of the minor’s valid identity document.
  • Copy of the valid identity document of the accompanying person. 

Note

  • If the person requesting the authorization at the Consulate does not provide the original valid birth certificate of the minor, it must be presented by the person to whom the authorization is granted.
  • If both parents grant authorization for the minor to leave the country, a copy of the valid identity document of the adult responsible for completing the authorization process in Uruguay must also be submitted.
