Certificate of Existence / Proof of Life
Eligible Applicants
Persons residing within the jurisdiction of this Consulate General who receive a retirement pension or benefit from Uruguay through one of the following institutions:
- Social Security Bank (BPS)
- Notarial Pension Fund
- Police Pension Fund
- Banking Pension Fund
- Military Pension Fund
- Other Uruguayan pension institutions
Procedure
The procedure may be completed either in person or by email.
In-Person Procedure
Uruguayan Identity Card or Passport
Cost: Free of charge
Procedure by Email:
Send an email to cgtoronto@mrree.gub.uy including the request and the following scanned documents:
- Copy of the identity card (front and back) or Uruguayan passport (personal information page)
- Medical certificate confirming that you are alive, signed by a physician and including the physician’s stamp, professional registration number, and date (issued no more than seven days before submission)
- Alternatively, a certificate of existence issued by another public authority may be submitted

Specific Information According to the Pension Institution
Military Pension Fund: The Proof of Life Certificate for the Uruguayan Military Pension Fund may only be processed during the months of January and July each year.
BPS: If completed in person, the certificate is valid for 90 days. If submitted with a medical certificate or a certificate issued by another institution, it is valid for 90 days.
