General or Special Power of Attorney at the Consulate
This procedure is intended for adults who wish to grant a power of attorney to a person located in Uruguay so that such person may act on their behalf in the authorized matter.
Procedure
The following documentation is required:
- Valid identity document of the grantor.
- Copy of the valid identity document of the attorney-in-fact.
- Information regarding the marital status and address of both parties.
- Draft or model of the Power of Attorney to be granted.
- Request an appointment by email at cgtoronto@mrree.gub.uy, attaching the required documentation.
Cost
15 Consular Fee Units.
Once the Power of Attorney has been granted by the Consulate, the document must be notarized and incorporated into the notarial records as follows:
- Once the first copy of the Power of Attorney granted at the Consulate has been obtained, and in order for it to be valid in Uruguay, the signature of the acting consular officer must first be legalized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uruguay, Department of Legalizations and Apostilles, located at Cuareim 1384, Montevideo.
- Once the consular officer’s signature has been legalized, the Power of Attorney must be notarized and incorporated into the notarial records by a Public Notary in Uruguay in order for it to have legal effect within the national territory.
