Registration of Birth at the Civil Registry of Uruguay

Eligible Applicants

Children of Uruguayans (Law No. 16.021) and grandchildren of Uruguayans (Law No. 19.362) interested in obtaining Uruguayan nationality who were born within the jurisdiction of this Consulate General.

Requirements

  • Canadian birth certificate apostilled and issued no more than 90 days prior to submission.
  • Copy of the Uruguayan birth certificate of the parent through whom nationality is claimed. In cases of registration through a Uruguayan grandparent, a copy of the Uruguayan birth certificate of the grandparent must also be provided.
  • Valid identity documents of both parents.
  • Two witnesses over 18 years of age carrying valid identification (identity card, passport, driver’s licence, or other photo identification). Witnesses may be direct relatives, including grandparents, uncles, aunts, among others.  

Note

The apostille of the birth certificate is issued by Official Documents Services (777 Bay St., Toronto; Tel. 416-325-8416).
