Renewal of Uruguayan National Identity Card

The Uruguayan National Identity Card is the official identity document of Uruguayan citizens. It must be in good condition, legible, valid, and contain a recognizable photograph. 

Eligible Applicants

  • Persons born in Uruguay
  • Children of Uruguayans born abroad (Law No. 16.021)
  • Grandchildren of Uruguayans born abroad (Law No. 19.362)
  • Legal citizens 

Note

Consulates only process renewals of Uruguayan National Identity Cards. First-time issuance may only be completed before the National Directorate of Civil Identification in Uruguay.

Requirements

Adults

  • Expired or damaged National Identity Card
  • Application form (available at the end of this document) 

In Case of Loss or Theft

  •  Police report issued by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP)
  • Application form (available at the end of this document)  

Legal Citizens

  •  National Identity Card
  • Citizenship Certificate
  • Voter Registration Card, when more than three years have elapsed since issuance of the Citizenship Certificate
  • Birth Certificate registered before the Civil Registry
  • Sworn Statement declaring that no third nationality has been acquired when residing abroad
  • Application form (available at the end of this document)  

Minors

  • Expired or damaged National Identity Card
  • Valid Uruguayan Birth Certificate (issued within the last 30 days)
  • Valid identity document of the responsible adult
  • In case of loss or theft, police report issued by the RCMP
  • Application form (available at the end of this document) 
    Minors must appear accompanied by one parent, who must provide authorization in person.

2. Gather the required documentation according to your situation (adult, minor, renewal, loss, legal citizenship, etc.). 
3. Request an appointment by calling 416-730-1289. 

Cost: 1 Consular Fee Unit.
