Transport of Ashes or Human Remains


Requirements for transporting ashes or human remains:
 

Documentation Required for the Transfer of Ashes:

  • Copy of Uruguayan or Canadian passport or identity card
  • Apostilled Death Certificate valid for 90 days
  • Apostilled Cremation Certificate 

Required documentation for transporting human remains:

  • Apostilled Death Certificate
  • Signed note requesting the procedure
  • Power of attorney or authorization to carry out the procedure
  • Embalming certificate and hermetically sealed coffin certificate with official medical intervention, duly apostilled
  • Authorization from the relevant health authority for transport of remains (Apostilled)
  • Copy of the deceased’s identity document (preferably Uruguayan) 
     

Who it is intended for:

  • Persons born in Uruguay, children of Uruguayans born abroad (Law 16.021), and grandchildren of Uruguayans born abroad (Law 19.362)
