Canberra / Discovering Uruguay through wine and tango

An evening celebrating Uruguayan culture, identity, and the excellence of its wines in Australia

On July 8, the Embassy of Uruguay in Australia, in collaboration with the Commonwealth Club in Canberra, hosted a special evening dedicated to promoting Uruguayan wines and culture in Australia.

The event brought together an Australian audience eager to learn more about Uruguay. Attendees enjoyed a specially curated tasting of Uruguayan wines, courtesy of Vinos of Uruguay, featuring Tannat and Albariño, two of the varieties that best represent the country's wine production. During the presentation, guests learned about the characteristics, history, and quality that distinguish our wines.

The experience was complemented by an outstanding tango performance by the ensemble TengoTango. Their repertoire included iconic works by Alfredo Zitarrosa and Francisco Canaro, as well as the universal classic La Cumparsita, introducing the audience to another key expression of Uruguay's cultural heritage.

The event provided a meaningful opportunity for cultural diplomacy and exchange, showcasing Uruguay's excellence in winemaking, creativity, and rich cultural identity.

The Embassy extends its special thanks to the Commonwealth Club, Vinos of Uruguay and TengoTango for their valuable collaboration in making this initiative possible, helping to further share Uruguayan culture and identity in Australia.
