Canberra / Uruguay at the National Multicultural Festival 2026

On Sunday February 8, the Embassy of Uruguay in Australia participated in the National Multicultural Festival 2026 held in Canberra. One of the country's main events dedicated to promoting cultural diversity and multiculturalism.

During the event, Uruguay’s stall became a vibrant space for connection and the promotion of our national identity. Through tastings of Uruguayan wines, including our emblematic Tannat variety, as well as dulce de leche, and the sharing of our traditional mate culture, visitors were able to experience the flavours, traditions and values that characterise Uruguay.

The stand had the honour of welcoming David Smith MP, Member of the Australian Federal Parliament; Peter Cain MLA, Member of the Australian Capital Territory Legislative Assembly (ACT); and Michael Pettersson MLA, ACT Minister, as well as festival organisers, local authorities and numerous members of the public interested in learning more about our country.

Participating in the National Multicultural Festival represented a valuable opportunity to strengthen cultural ties, promote Uruguay in Australia, and reaffirm the country’s commitment to intercultural dialogue and diversity.

Below are some images reflecting the most memorable moments of this day of encounter and celebration.
