Melbourne / Uruguay at the Australia-Latin America Forum 2026 hosted by ALABC

Promoting trade, investment and innovation opportunities between both regions

Uruguay participated in the Latitudes of Opportunity: Australia-Latin America Forum 2026, held on Tuesday 16 June in Melbourne and organised by the Australia-Latin America Business Council (ALABC), in collaboration with the Australian Government and the Council on Australia Latin America Relations (COALAR).

As a key platform for strengthening economic and strategic ties, the Forum brought together government officials, business leaders, investors, and key stakeholders from both regions to advance strategic partnerships in trade, investment, and innovation.

Ambassador Dianela Pi, in her capacity as Dean of the Heads of Mission of the Group of Latin America and the Caribbean (GRULAC) accredited to Australia, participated in the opening panel “Latitudes of Collaboration - Strategic Reset: Why Australia-Latin America Alignment Matters Now”, alongside leading representatives from Australia’s public, academic, and business sectors.

The exchange highlighted the growing convergence between Australia and Latin America in key areas for sustainable development, including education, the energy transition, investment, science and technology, within an increasingly interconnected global context marked by new challenges. The Ambassador emphasised Latin America as a dynamic and diverse region, and a vital partner for sustained cooperation.

The Forum also underlined the cultural dimension of the relationship between both regions. In this context, Uruguay was represented through a live tango performance, featuring La Cumparsita by Gerardo Matos Rodríguez and En esta tarde gris by Julio Sosa, bringing one of the most emblematic expressions of our cultural identity to the audience.

Uruguay’s presence at this gathering reaffirms our commitment to strengthening ties between Australia and Latin America, fostering connections that build trust, promote cooperation, and open new opportunities for shared development.

The Embassy extends its sincere thanks to ALABC, the Australian Government, COALAR, and all organisers and participants for making this valuable platform for regional engagement possible.
