Social Security Agreement between Uruguay and Australia

Signing of the Social Security Agreement between Uruguay and Australia.

The Social Security Agreement between Uruguay and Australia is the result of an extensive negotiation process between the authorities of both countries, which included two rounds of discussions: the first held in Montevideo in September 2023, and the second in Canberra in June 2024. These meetings led to the adoption of the final text of the Agreement in both Spanish and English, as well as a draft Administrative Arrangement for its implementation.

The official signing of the Agreement took place on 26 August 2025 in Canberra, marking a historic step in the bilateral relationship.

Following its signature, the Agreement will undergo parliamentary approval in each country, paving the way for its future entry into force and implementation for the benefit of Uruguayan and Australian citizens.
