Birth Registration with the Civil Registry of Uruguay
For children and grandchildren of Uruguayan citizens who wish to obtain Uruguayan nationality and who were born in Belgium or Luxembourg.
Requirements:
- Belgian or Luxembourg birth certificate of the person to be registered, apostilled and issued in the multilingual/international format.
- Valid identity documents of both parents, in good condition. The Uruguayan parent or grandparent must present their Uruguayan identity document.
- Uruguayan birth certificate of the parent who is Uruguayan. This certificate can be obtained by the Consulate with the date and place of birth of the Uruguayan parent. For grandchildren of Uruguayans, the birth certificate of the grandparent born in Uruguay will also be required.
- Two adult witnesses with valid identity documents in good condition. The witnesses do not need to be Uruguayan citizens; they may be relatives or friends.
- Payment of the applicable fee. The exact amount will be indicated by email; please do not make any payment until your appointment has been confirmed. Please note that the amount may vary slightly depending on the monthly exchange rate between euros and U.S. dollars.
