Passport Renewal
Issuance of a Uruguayan ordinary passport due to expiration, damage, loss, or theft.
Adults
Requirements:
- Present your national identity card (if you have one) and your expired passport. In case of loss or theft, you must present the corresponding police report.
- Uruguayan birth certificate. This document can be obtained by the Consulate with the applicant’s date and place of birth. Uruguayan citizens born abroad must also present the birth certificate registered with the Dirección General del Registro de Estado Civil.
- Only for children and grandchildren of Uruguayans born abroad: present the Uruguayan birth certificate of the parent and/or grandparent, as applicable.
- Belgian or Luxembourg criminal record certificate, apostilled. Request this document from your municipality of residence. Once apostilled, it must be translated by a sworn translator in Uruguay (you can find a translator on the website of the Colegio de Traductores Públicos del Uruguay). Criminal record certificates issued in French may be translated at the Consulate for an additional fee.
- Pay the applicable fee. The exact amount will be indicated by email; please do not make any payment until your appointment has been confirmed. Please note that the amount may vary slightly depending on the monthly exchange rate between euros and U.S. dollars.
- Only for legal citizens: certificate stating that no other nationality has been acquired. This document is issued at the Consulate and is subject to a fee.
Menores de edad
Minors must always attend the appointment accompanied by both parents, who must authorize the procedure in person and present their valid identity documents in good condition. The authorization for passport issuance and the passport application are processed during the same appointment. If one of the parents cannot be present, the absence may be justified as follows:
- If the parent is in Uruguay: obtain a minor travel authorization for the issuance of a passport at the Travel Documentation Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uruguay (Cuareim 1384, Monday to Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.).
- If the parent is in a country other than Belgium or Luxembourg: obtain authorization for passport issuance at the nearest Uruguayan Consulate.
- If one parent is deceased: present the death certificate. If the death occurred abroad, an apostilled certificate must be provided.
Once you have reviewed and complied with the requirements listed above, according to your situation, please request an appointment by sending an email to urubelgica@mrree.gub.uy, attaching all the required documentation for the procedure, including a photo of the document to be renewed.
