14th Joint Cooperation Committee between the European Union and Uruguay

On June 4, 2026, the 14th Joint Cooperation Committee between the European Union and Uruguay was held in Montevideo, under the 1992 Framework Agreement on Cooperation. During the meeting, both parties reviewed the state of bilateral, regional, and multilateral relations, highlighting the high level of cooperation between Uruguay and the European Union. They reaffirmed their commitment to democracy, the rule of law, human rights, multilateralism, and the fight against climate change, as well as to promoting sustainable and inclusive development.

The delegations emphasized the importance of making progress in implementing international initiatives on development financing and global cooperation, as well as deepening cooperation in areas such as the digital and green transition, mobility, renewable energy, decarbonization, gender equality, and social cohesion, within the framework of initiatives such as the Global Gateway and European cooperation programs.

They also discussed cooperation on security and the fight against transnational organized crime, emphasizing the need to strengthen coordination in the face of threats such as drug trafficking, money laundering, human trafficking, and arms trafficking. They highlighted cooperation with the European Union in strengthening institutional capacities and exchanging information.

Finally, the discussion turned to economic and trade ties, with both sides welcoming the provisional entry into force of the Interim Trade Agreement between the European Union and MERCOSUR. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to multilateralism, respect for international law, and the promotion of international peace and security, as well as to strengthening the partnership between the European Union and Latin America and the Caribbean.
