The meeting was attended by Matthias Diependaele, Minister-President of the Flemish Region; the ambassadors of the Mercosur member states; and a significant delegation from the Flemish private sector, including companies with an active presence in Uruguay and the region. The event served as a forum for strategic dialogue on the opportunities the agreement opens up for trade and investment relations between the two regions.

The presence of business representatives at the event demonstrates the interest that the provisional agreement’s entry into force has generated among European businesses, given the expected increase in trade and investment flows. Indeed, the European Union is the leading foreign investor in Uruguay, with a presence in various sectors of the national economy—a reality that the agreement promises to strengthen.

The event once again highlighted the concrete benefits the agreement will bring to both regions and the private sector’s strong interest in capitalizing on these opportunities. Uruguay thus reaffirmed its status as a stable, secure, and reliable partner for trade, investment, and growth between the two regions.
