MERCOSUR Short Film Competition: “Borders and Encounters”

Applications are now open for the second edition of the MERCOSUR Short Film Competition, under the theme “Borders and Encounters.”

The Reunión Especializada de Autoridades Cinematográficas y Audiovisuales del MERCOSUR (RECAM) is organizing the second edition of this competition, which aims to recognize audiovisual works from the region and broaden their access to diverse audiences by incorporating accessibility tools.

Participants must be over 18 years of age and citizens of Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, or Uruguay, and must submit short films of up to 20 minutes in length, produced from 2024 onward.

The submitted works should explore the notion of borders from a broad perspective, considering territorial, social, cultural, generational, symbolic, or emotional dimensions, and highlighting the encounters that shape contemporary life in the region.

Applications are free of charge and will remain open until February 15 of the current year, through the application form available at the following link.

The competition will select two winning works, each receiving USD 500 for the non-exclusive exhibition rights. In addition, accessible versions of the awarded short films will be produced, including subtitles in Portuguese, Spanish, and Guaraní, sign language, and audio description. The jury may also grant special mentions, which will receive subtitles and closed captions (CC).

The selected works will be included in the non-commercial distribution circuits of the Reunión Especializada de Autoridades Cinematográficas y Audiovisuales del MERCOSUR, including screenings in cinemas and cultural venues, educational settings, and on the MERCOSUR Audiovisual Platform.
