Message from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the 201st anniversary of the Declaration of Independence

Message to our fellow countrymen.

On this anniversary of our country’s Declaration of Independence, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs extends warm greetings to all Uruguayan men and women wherever they may be in the world.

As they do every year, Uruguay’s embassies and consular offices organize celebrations in which you play a vital role. This day provides an opportunity for reunion, exchange, remembrance, and reflection.

Uruguay is made up of the people who live in our country and all of you who are in every corner of the globe. No matter where or when you are, you are part of our past and present, but you are also the builders of our future.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, along with our diplomatic missions and consular offices, works every day to ensure that you feel integrated and included in our country. Maintaining ties with our citizens is an important part of the government’s foreign policy agenda.

The promotion and protection of all rights is the cornerstone of this mission, whether it involves obtaining a travel document or completing a procedure related to the country where you reside or to our country. Day by day, we must continue to refine and improve public service. But it is also essential and fundamental to strengthen our ties with you.

Efforts are underway to improve services and achieve technological modernization and administrative streamlining that will enhance the quality of administrative procedures and shorten response times.

You keep our nation alive through every cultural and social expression you engage in. Thanks to your activities, Uruguayan traditions, and actions, the whole world knows about our country. Every cultural expression you engage in is, without a doubt, a way to put Uruguay on the world map. The goal is for these actions to multiply and grow stronger.

On this very special day, it is important to remember that the nation transcends territorial borders. Feeling Uruguayan goes far beyond a spontaneous expression; rather, it is reflected in the day-to-day lives of its people.

Let’s celebrate this day and redouble our dreams and hopes. No matter where we happen to be, we will always be part of a beautiful country like Uruguay.
