Premiere of Ponsonbyland in Belgium

On Monday, 16 March, within the framework of the Mondays for Democracy initiative of the King Baudouin Foundation, the Embassy of Uruguay co-organized, together with the Foundation, the BELvue Museum and Quilombo Productions, the first screening in Belgium of the documentary Ponsonbyland.

The event, held at the BELvue Museum in Brussels, brought together a large audience, with a full house and a notable representatives from the Royal Household, the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, members of the diplomatic corps, academia, representatives of European institutions, and the Uruguayan community residing in Belgium.

Following the screening, a Q&A session took place with the participation of Ramiro Cabrera, director of the documentary; Eva Moeraert, narrator of the film; and Gert Huskens, a historian featured in the project.

Ponsonbyland offers a reflection on the historical ties between Uruguay and Belgium through the figure of Lord John Ponsonby, highlighting shared elements in the formation of both countries. The strong reception of the event confirmed the interest generated by initiatives of this kind in further bringing Uruguay and Belgium closer through culture and shared history.
