Uruguay participated in the 14th Regular Meeting of the Governing Board of the EU-LAC Foundation in Brussels
The purpose of the meeting was to analyze the institutional progress made, review the work priorities for 2026, and pave the way for the upcoming European Union–Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (EU-CELAC) Ministerial Meeting. Uruguay’s participation reaffirmed the country’s commitment to strengthening the bi-regional strategic partnership, which is considered a vital framework for promoting cooperation based on shared values, common interests, and a joint vision for addressing global challenges.
During the meeting, the Uruguayan delegation highlighted the importance of the EU-LAC Foundation as a key instrument for deepening ties between Latin America and the Caribbean and the European Union, facilitating political dialogue, the exchange of experiences, and the development of cooperation initiatives in strategic areas. It also highlighted the Foundation’s role as a platform for coordination among governments, institutions, international organizations, academia, civil society, and the private sector, helping to strengthen an increasingly broad bi-regional relationship focused on concrete results.
In this context, Uruguay highlighted the extraordinary meeting of the Board of Directors held in Montevideo on June 4, the first such meeting of this body to take place in Latin America and the Caribbean. This meeting marked an institutional milestone by strengthening the presence and sense of belonging of both regions within the Foundation, thereby consolidating its truly bi-regional character and its capacity to support the evolution of the EU-CELAC strategic partnership.
Likewise, the Uruguayan delegation commended the progress made in the Foundation’s management, particularly the efforts to streamline the budget, prioritize activities, and establish an efficient, results-oriented work agenda. Uruguay reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening bi-regional cooperation and to the role of the EU-LAC Foundation as a platform for dialogue, trust, and the joint development of responses to the challenges shared by Latin America, the Caribbean, and the European Union.
