• Diplomatic posting at the Permanent Mission of Uruguay to the United Nations, New York (1991 to 1996).
• United Nations International Electoral Officer in Cambodia as part of the United Nations Transitional Authority in Cambodia (UNTAC) (1993), and participant in United Nations peacekeeping operations in Cambodia, Mozambique, and Angola.
• Joined the Foreign Service of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay through a competitive examination based on merit (1988).
