Uruguayan Identity Card Renewal
For those interested in renewing their Uruguayan identity card.
Requirements:
General:
- Expired or damaged identity card
- Application form (find it at the bottom of the page)
Lost or stolen identity card:
- Police report for theft or loss filed at a RCMP station.

Requirements for the Renewal of Identity Cards of Legal Citizens
- Identity Card.
- Citizenship letter.
- Civic Credential.
- Proof of not having acquired another nationality.
On the day of the appointment, the requested original documentation and copy must be presented, as well as the printed form.
Send your appointment request, attaching the required documents, to the email address cdottawa@mrree.gub.uy
After verifying the information, you will receive a reply with the details of your appointment so that you may appear at the Consulate on the indicated date and time carrying the original documentation.
Cost: 25 Canadian dollars (the amount may vary by 1 or 2 Canadian dollars, equivalent to the exchange rate between the Canadian dollar and the U.S. dollar for the current month). Payment will be made on the day of your appointment by bank deposit or e-transfer to cdottawa@mrree.gub.uy
In approximately 30 business days, you will be notified by email of the arrival of your document, since the identity card is printed in Montevideo and received by diplomatic pouch.
Who is it for
- Persons born in Uruguay; children of Uruguayans born abroad (Law No. 16,021); grandchildren of Uruguayans born abroad (Law No. 19,362); and legal citizens holding a Civic Credential and original Citizenship Certificate.
