Requirements for the Renewal of Passport of Legal Citizens

  2. Identity Card.
  3. Canadian Criminal Record Certificate, apostilled and issued less than ninety days prior.
  4. Citizenship letter.
  5. Civic Credential.
  6. Proof of not having acquired another nationality. This is done at the Consulate at a cost.

On the day of the appointment, the requested original documentation and copy must be presented, as well as the printed form.

  1. Report before local Canadian police authorities for theft or loss of Uruguayan passport
  2. Report in Uruguay’s Public Security Management System (done at the time of the procedure).
  3. Uruguayan identity card (if available).
  4. Valid criminal record certificate, duly apostilled, issued no more than 90 days prior (adults).
  5. Legal citizens must additionally provide citizenship letter and civic credential.
  6. Application form (find it at the bottom of the page).

Note: We inform you that the Criminal Record Certificate must be federal in Canada and include fingerprint registration, and it is requested from the RCMP, while apostilles are requested from Global Affairs Canada.

Note: Minors must always attend accompanied by mother and father, who must authorize the procedure in person. If one of the parents is not present to carry out the procedure, the absence may be justified as follows:

  • If located in Uruguay: process a minor’s permit for the issuance of a passport for the first time before the Travel Documentation Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Cuareim Street 1384, Monday to Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.).
  • If located abroad: process a minor’s permit authorizing the issuance of a passport for the first time before the Uruguayan Consulate nearest to the place where they are located.

It is important to have this minor’s permit beforehand, before requesting the appointment for the issuance of the minor’s passport for the first time, since, without the authorization, it is not possible to carry out the procedure.

  • If mother or father has passed away: submit death certificate (if the certificate is Uruguayan, issued less than 30 days prior. If foreign, certificate valid for 1 year and duly legalized or apostilled).

Once you have carefully reviewed the requirements detailed above, make your appointment request to the email address cdottawa@mrree.gub.uy sending the required documents as attachments.

After verifying the information, you will receive a reply with the details of your appointment so that you may appear at the Consulate on the indicated date and time carrying the original documentation.

Note: All documents submitted in English or French must be officially translated by the Consulate (see Official Translations)

Cost: 50 Canadian dollars (the amount may vary by 1 or 2 Canadian dollars, equivalent to the exchange rate between Canadian dollars and U.S. dollars for the current month). Payment will be made on the day of your appointment by bank deposit or e-transfer to cdottawa@mrree.gub.uy

In approximately 30 business days, you will be notified by email of the arrival of your passport, since the documents are printed in Montevideo and sent to the Consulates by diplomatic pouch.
