Request for Apostilled Civil Registry Certificates from Uruguay

Request for a certificate issued by Uruguay’s General Directorate of Civil Registry attesting to a birth, recognition of parentage, marriage, or death that occurred within the national territory.

Requirements

  1. Copy of the applicant’s Uruguayan passport or identity card.
  2. Applicant’s Canadian driver’s licence or another locally issued identity document.
  3. Completed attached form (mandatory).

IMPORTANT: Once the document has been requested from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the processing time may exceed 60 days.

Alternatively, you may arrange for a family member, friend, or authorized agent in Uruguay to request the apostilled certificate directly from the relevant Civil Registry Office or Municipal Government and subsequently have it apostilled by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Please note that marriage certificates containing a marginal annotation of divorce must be requested from the corresponding Municipal Government rather than from the Civil Registry Office in Montevideo. Therefore, in divorce cases, the marriage certificate may not yet reflect the relevant update.

Fee: Approximately CAD 26. The exact amount may vary from month to month depending on the exchange rate between the Canadian and United States dollars, as well as the applicable apostille fee in Montevideo.

Payment must be made on the day of the appointment by Interac e-Transfer to cdottawa@mrree.gub.uy or by bank deposit into the Embassy’s account. The relevant payment instructions will be provided when the appointment is confirmed.
