The Consular Section Publishes an Information Guide for Traveling to Uruguay with Pets

The Consular Section of the Embassy of Uruguay in Canada has published an information guide intended to assist people traveling from Canada to Uruguay with dogs or cats.
The guide provides a clear and concise overview of the main requirements currently in force for bringing pets into Uruguay, including the required documentation, the issuance of an International Veterinary Certificate (IVC) by the official Canadian veterinary authority or, where applicable, the use of a duly validated official pet passport.
The publication also highlights the animal health requirements relating to leishmaniasis. In particular, it notes that, unless Canada is officially recognized as free of the disease for the purposes of Uruguayan regulations, dogs must have a negative leishmaniasis test result obtained within the 60 days preceding their entry into Uruguay. The result must be recorded in the International Veterinary Certificate.
The guide also includes links to official information provided by the Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries (MGAP), as well as the contact details of the competent offices for specific inquiries concerning the entry of pets into the country.
The Consular Section of the Embassy of Uruguay in Canada recalls that the authorization and control of the entry of pets fall exclusively within the jurisdiction of MGAP. The purpose of this guide is to facilitate access to official and up-to-date information so that travelers can plan ahead and comply with the applicable requirements.
