Uruguayan Community

The Uruguayan community in Canada is a fundamental component of the relationship between the two countries. Its presence contributes to preserving national identity, promoting Uruguayan culture, and strengthening the human, social, and cultural ties between the Oriental Republic of Uruguay and Canada.

The Embassy maintains contact with compatriots in Ottawa-Gatineau and works in coordination with the Consulates General in Montreal and Toronto, as well as with the Honorary District Consulate in Vancouver, to accompany Uruguayan communities in different provinces.

In Montreal, the Uruguayan Consultative Council of the Greater Montreal Region constitutes a formal reference point for the community. In Toronto, Club Uruguay Toronto develops social and cultural activities that contribute to preserving and celebrating Uruguayan identity. Likewise, cultural expressions such as Candombe Montreal reflect the vitality of the community and the projection of Uruguayan traditions in Canada.
