Who can apply?

Adults who wish to grant power of attorney to a third party located in Uruguay, so that the latter may, on their behalf and in their representation, carry out the procedure for which authorisation is granted.

Requirements

• Identity document of the principal.
• Copy of the identity document of the attorney-in-fact.
• Provide the marital status and address of both parties.
• Draft of the power of attorney, provided by your notary in Uruguay.

How to apply?

After verifying the documentation and adding the consular clauses to the draft power of attorney provided, you will be given an appointment to appear in person at the Consulate on the date and time indicated.

On the day of your appointment, you must bring your valid identity document.

Cost

€225 (the amount may vary depending on the current exchange rate). 

Payment must be made by bank transfer. Payment details will be provided once you have sent all the documentation by email.

What to do once the Power of Attorney has been granted?

Once the Power of Attorney has been granted by the Consular Section, the document must be notarised:

Step 1: Once you have obtained the first copy of the Power of Attorney granted by the Consular Section, in order for it to be valid in Uruguay, you must have the signature of the acting consular official legalised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uruguay, Department of Legalisation and Apostilles, located at Calle Cuareim 1384, Montevideo.

Step 2: Once the signature of the consular official has been legalised, the power of attorney must be notarised before a Notary Public in Uruguay in order for it to be valid in the national territory.
