Parliamentary State Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Regional Identity in Uruguay

As part of the follow-up to the extensive bilateral agenda for scientific cooperation in the agri-food sector that Uruguay maintains with the Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Regional Identity (BMLEH) and between German research institutes in this field and the INIA, the Embassy of Uruguay in Berlin coordinated a visit to Uruguay of the Parliamentary State Secretary, Martina Englhardt-Kopf.
It is worth noting that the Parliamentary State Secretary travelled accompanied by a large delegation, which included members of academic institutions with which, and under the umbrella of the “Uruguayan-German Agricultural Dialogue – German Dialogue’ (DAUA), an extensive and fruitful cooperation programme is being carried out through institutions in the Uruguayan agricultural sector (MGAP-INIA) and the German agricultural sector (BMLEH and the Julius Kühn Institute – JKI). This visit provided an opportunity to see first-hand the bilateral cooperation projects currently being developed by the BMLEH, the MGAP and INIA.
Furthermore, the accompanying delegation also included business representatives from the agricultural sector, who held a series of meetings in Uruguay.
Taking particular account of Uruguay’s Pro Tempore Presidency of MERCOSUR, the Parliamentary State Secretary of the BMLEH held working meetings at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the aim of exploring possible bilateral collaborations and increase common opportunities related to the MERCOSUR–EU treaty.
Finally, the Minister Alfredo Fratti (MGAP), and the Parliamentary State Secretary, Martina Englhardt-Kopf, signed an addendum to the existing Memorandum of Understanding on bilateral cooperation, with the object of incorporating the ‘blue bioeconomy’ into the scope of existing bilateral cooperation.
