On Friday 7 November 2025, with the support of the Uruguayan Embassy in Berlin, the band from the Department of Salto, ‘Acordeones del Uruguay’, performed in the town of Neuhaus am Rennweg in the federal state of Thuringia.

This performance, which was organised in collaboration with the town council and the Association for International Relations of Neuhaus am Rennweg, forms part of the close ties that bind the two communities, as Neuhaus am Rennweg is twinned with the Uruguayan town of Nueva Helvecia.

The performance took place in the town’s famous wooden church, built in 1891 and preserved to this day in its original condition. The church was absolutely packed with the audience – some 230 people – a fact that was even reflected in the words of its administrator, who remarked that ‘we had to open the upper gallery, something that is only necessary at Christmas’.

Among the audience were, Mario Suckert, State Secretary at the Thuringian Ministry of Economics, Agriculture and Rural Affairs; the District Administrator of Sonneberg, Robert Sesselmann; the Mayor of Neuhaus, Uwe Scheler; and Member of the State Parliament Henry Worm, Chairman of the Association for the Promotion of International Relations in Neuhaus am Rennweg.

The repertoire presented included national waltz, tango, candombe and murga rhythms, as well as traditional pieces from German culture.
