Regional meeting of the German Chambers of Commerce in Montevideo
The Association of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce (Deutsche Industrie und Handelskammer – DIHK), which comprises 79 different Chambers of Industry and Commerce (Industrie- und Handelskammern – IHK) representing the German business sector in their respective regions (Federal States), largely funds the overseas presence of 150 German Chambers of Commerce and Industry (AHK – Auslandshandelskammern) in 93 countries, including the German-Uruguayan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (AHK Uruguay).
Regional meetings of the Chambers of Commerce and Industry abroad (AHK) are organised annually in one of the countries in the region.
The Uruguayan Embassy in Berlin advocated to its contacts at the DIHK that the 2026 meeting should be held in Montevideo.
Consequently, on 2 June, the annual meeting of the German Chambers of Commerce and Industry on the American continent took place in Montevideo. The meeting was attended, amongst others, by DIHK executives such as Dr Mark Heinzel (Head of the North America, Latin America and Caribbean Division at the DIHK and Coordinator of the DIHK’s Latin American Initiative for the German Economy) and Ingo Kramer (President of the “LAI – German Industry Initiative for Latin America”), alongside a delegation of German businesspeople who are members of the various chambers (IHK) grouped under the DIHK.
Furthermore, within the framework of the MERCOSUR–EU agreement and with a view to Uruguay’s role within MERCOSUR and the Southern Cone as a whole, Dr Mark Heinzel and Ingo Kramer held work meetings with officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
