Message from Ambassador Manuel Etchevarren Aguerre

Ambassador Etchevarren welcomes you to the new website of the Embassy of Uruguay in Israel.

Ambassador Etchevarren

On May 19, 1948, the date on which the decree recognizing the State of Israel was signed, our country embarked on a path of engagement that continues to be updated to this day and is based on a historical affinity grounded in shared values such as tolerance, democracy and peaceful coexistence.

The decree signed by then President Luis Batlle Berres refers to the legal basis for this recognition, namely the text of United Nations General Assembly Resolution 181 of November 29, 1947, in which Uruguay played a significant role in both its drafting and approval. We have included documents from that period that show how this bond was forged.

Today, 77 years after this recognition, the Uruguayan community in Israel numbers between fifteen thousand and twentyfour thousand compatriots and is one of the largest Uruguayan diasporas in the world. Their needs are addressed by this Mission, whose main objectives include being a close and accessible point of contact for all.

Within this framework, this new outreach resource will help us turn this vocation into a reality and fulfill the aspiration of bringing Uruguay closer to all our conationals in the State of Israel.
