Circular Note Nr. 04/2025 – Oath of Allegiance to the National Flag

Information is hereby provided regarding the Oath of Allegiance to the National Flag to be held at the Embassy premises.

It is hereby announced that on Thursday, June 19 — the anniversary of the birth of the national hero José Gervasio Artigas — at 11:00 a.m., the Oath of Allegiance to the National Flag will be administered at the premises of this Embassy in a public and solemn ceremony, for all Uruguayan citizens who have not yet taken the oath and wish to do so.

This ceremony is conducted in accordance with the following legal provisions:

  1. Article 28 of Decree-Law No. 9,943 of July 20, 1940.
  2. Executive Power Decree No. 886 of December 19, 1940.
  3. Decree of May 28, 1943.

The oath of allegiance to the flag is an act of great patriotic symbolism that may only be taken on June 19 of each year and only once in a lifetime. It may be taken from the age of 12, and may be sworn by all compatriots who can prove their Uruguayan nationality (national identity card, civic credential, passport, etc.).
