Circular Note Nr. 05/2026 – Oath of Allegiance to the National Flag – June 19

The Embassy of Uruguay in Israel extends its greetings to the Uruguayan community in Israel and is pleased to inform that on Friday, June 19, marking the 262nd Anniversary of the Birth of the National Hero, José Gervasio Artigas, at 11:00 a.m., at the premises of this Embassy, a public and solemn ceremony will be held for the administration of the Oath of Allegiance to the National Flag to all Uruguayan citizens who have not yet taken the oath and wish to do so.
This ceremony is held in accordance with the following legal provisions:
- Article 28 of Decree-Law No. 9,943 of July 20, 1940.
- Executive Branch Decree No. 886 of December 19, 1940.
- Decree of May 28, 1943.
The Oath of Allegiance to the National Flag is an act of profound patriotic significance that may only be taken on June 19 of each year and may be undertaken only once in a lifetime.
The oath may be taken by individuals 11 years of age and older, and is open to all compatriots who can provide proof of their Uruguayan nationality (national identity card, voter registration card, passport, etc.).
The only instances in which proof of having taken this oath is required are for entry into the Uruguayan Public Administration or enrollment at the University of the Republic.
