Official Mourning Declared on August 27 Following the Death of Uruguayan Musician Ruben Rada
Uruguay bids farewell to one of the greatest figures of Uruguayan popular culture, Ruben Rada (1943–2026).
On this day, musician and composer Ruben Rada passed away. His prolific artistic career, recognized internationally, brought great distinction to our country and established him as a leading cultural figure.
Official mourning was declared on August 27, 2026. The national flag will be flown at half-mast at all public buildings, Embassies of the Republic abroad, and other institutions.
In tribute to his work, on Friday, August 28, Channel 5 will broadcast the concert he performed especially as part of the Bicentennial commemorations of the Declaration of Independence.
