Meeting between Heads of Mission of GRULAC countries and Minister for Foreign Affairs of Sweden

The Swedish Minister for Foreign Affairs opened the meeting by highlighting Sweden’s commitment to multilateralism and respect for international law, reaffirming that a rules-based international order is a fundamental pillar for global stability and cooperation. The Minister expressed her government’s intention to deepen bilateral relations with Latin America, with particular emphasis on innovation, sustainable development, the digital and green transitions, gender equality, and international trade.
In the course of the exchange, the GRULAC ambassadors expressed their appreciation to the Swedish government for the invitation and for the opportunity to share their perspectives on the bilateral relationship. These remarks reflected a common appreciation for the close bonds with Sweden and a clear interest in deepening bilateral cooperation. At the same time, they conveyed well-founded concerns about the possible implications of the Swedish government’s budgetary adjustments on its cooperation policies.
This instance of direct political dialogue between Sweden and Latin America not only provided an opportunity to review Sweden’s foreign policy priorities toward the region, but also created a valuable space for expression and consultation for the countries of the Latin American group.
