Oath of Allegiance to the National Flag

The Oath of Allegiance to the National Flag is a profoundly symbolic patriotic act and may only be performed on June 19th of each year.
All Uruguayan citizens, from the age of 11 or 12 onwards, are eligible to take the Oath, regardless of whether or not they have attended formal education.
Uruguayan nationality should be understood in its broadest sense. The following documents are accepted as valid proof for this act:
- Uruguayan Identity Card
- Voter Registration Card (Credencial Cívica)
- Uruguayan Passport
- Uruguayan Birth Certificate
- Foreign Birth Certificate indicating Uruguayan parentage
It is important to note that this Oath is taken only once in a lifetime. Therefore, those who have already taken it in the past should not do so again, even if they no longer possess proof of it. In such cases, a certificate may be requested from the Uruguayan institution where the Oath was originally administered.
Compatriots interested in taking the Oath of Allegiance to the National Flag at the Embassy of Uruguay in Sweden should send an email to cdestocolmo@mrree.gub.uy, including their personal details and attaching a document that certifies their nationality.
