Just 24 hours after the terrible railway accident that occurred in Toledo, which claimed 60 lives, Spain remains deeply shaken and shocked, not only by the tragedy that has befallen so many people, but also because many are still engulfed in anguish and uncertainty, as they have yet to learn the fate of their family members who were aboard either of the two trains.

Through a daily newspaper sent to me by a very dear Spanish friend from Segovia, I learned that Spanish football had expressed its unconditional support for those affected by this tragic event.

One of the most prominent figures to step forward was Federico Valverde, the distinguished Uruguayan footballer and captain of Real Madrid. From a strictly sporting perspective, very few foreign players have managed to become captains of a team as prestigious and renowned as Real Madrid.

As soon as the tragedy became known, Valverde pledged his support through his Instagram account, sharing specific and essential information, including:

  • Locations where blood donations could be made.
  • Telephone numbers for psychological support.
  • Information about passengers who had not yet been located by their families and friends.
  • Thanks to his initiative, many people joined the effort and mobilized to help.

Federico Valverde has thus demonstrated that he is also a person of outstanding human qualities, bringing great honor and prestige to Uruguay.
