Participation in the "Ibero-American Cultures Festival", Stockholm

On March 22, 2025, it was a day of gathering and celebration among compatriots. Our Embassy participated in the XIII Ibero-American Cultures Festival, organized in collaboration with the Cervantes Institute of Stockholm, presenting a group of local musicians with a variation of the milonga titled "Para beneplácito de todos, ¡La Milonga Perra!".
Over the past few years, the Embassy of Uruguay in Sweden and other Ibero-American embassies have collaborated with the Cervantes Institute of Stockholm in organizing the Ibero-American Cultures Festival. The theme of this year's presentations was heritage, understood in a broad sense.
Candombe, milonga, and tango reflect the dialogue between diverse cultures that define us as a society, fusing the rural with the urban, the African with the European, the regional with the global. Although the origins of each genre are difficult to trace, it is evident that the three are closely linked. Alfredo Zitarrosa poetically summed up this relationship with the phrase: "Milonga is the daughter of candombe, just as tango is the daughter of milonga." On this occasion, and as an expression of our identity and cultural heritage, the Embassy of Uruguay had the honor of presenting the local artist group "El Siri bb x la Perrera" and their "Milonga Perra."
