Requirements and documentation needed to apply for a tourist visa. Those who can provide proof of an invitation from the organizers of national or international events of public interest held in Uruguay may apply for this type of visa.
Requirement:
- Completed and signed visa application form (find it at the bottom of the page).
- Electronic passport photo in JPG format, well-lit with a white background. Size: 1200x1200 pixels.
- Copy of a valid passport with a validity of at least 6 months, including all pages and any visas from other countries. The passport must be in good condition.
- Permisos de residencia del país en donde usted reside actualmente (Suecia, Noruega o Dinamarca)
- Comprobante de ingresos, debidamente acreditados que puedan justificar la manutención y el alojamiento en Uruguay por el plazo de estadía declarada por el solicitante.
- Residence permits from the country of current residence (Sweden, Norway, or Denmark.).
Hotel reservation or complete information about the place of accommodation. - An invitation letter from the event organizer. For private institutions or organizations, the letter must include a description of both the institution and the event, along with the institution's registration or accreditation number with the Ministry of Education and Culture. Additionally, it should provide the contact information of the person responsible for the institution or organization.
- Document certifying the public interest status of the event.
Details of the transportation arrangements for traveling to Uruguay (reservation, etc.). - Police certificate from the country of residence, properly apostilled with the Hague Apostille.
- Payment of consular fee for visa application.
- Personal interview with the Consul, to be fulfilled.
Period of permanence: If the visa is granted, the stay in the country will be for 90 days, extendable for an additional 90 days, in accordance with Article 13, paragraph a) of Decree No. 394/009, dated August 24, 2009.
Entries to Uruguay: The tourist visa will be for multiple entries during the validity period of the visa.
Important: The visa authorization is granted by the National Directorate of Migration in Uruguay. Once the visa application is submitted, it may take up to 60 days for the Consulate to receive the authorization to issue the visa, which will then be stamped in the passport of the visa holder.
How to obtain a criminal record:
- To obtain a criminal record extract in Sweden, you must request a document denominated “Belastningsregistret – begär utdrag, Blanketter - utdrag att använda utomlands o Request for an extract for the criminal records registry for purpose in another country.”
This extract can be requested directly from the Swedish police website. - To request a criminal record certificate in Norway, you must request a document denominated “Police certificate of conduct, Request a police certificate of conduct or updated background check.”
You can request it directly from the Norwegian police website. - To request a criminal record certificate in Denmark, you must apply for a “Certificate of criminal record.” You can request it directly from the Danish police website.
It is preferable to request the document in Spanish. If this is not possible, it can also be requested in English.
How to obtain the Hague Apostille for foreign documents to be valid in Uruguay, in the case of:
Sweden: at the Notary Public
Denmark: at the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Norway: at the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, The County Governors (Fylkesmannen).
Every person applying for a visa must have a contact person in Uruguay. If no such reference is available, a confirmed hotel reservation must be submitted. In both cases, it is mandatory to provide complete information about the contact person or the organization that responsable of the event details, including name, address, and phone number.
It is essential to ensure that the information provided is accurate and up to date, as the National Directorate of Migration will contact the person or the company directly. If contact cannot be established, or if the information cannot be confirmed, there is a risk that the visa application may be denied.
Once the Consulate has received all required documentation and conducted the interview with the applicant (either in person or via video call), the application will be forwarded to the National Directorate of Migration in Uruguay for evaluation. Once a decision regarding the visa is received, the Consulate will contact the applicant to inform them of the outcome.
