EU-Mercosur Statement on Sustainable Development at EU27-LAC Informal Ministerial Meeting
On the occasion of the EU27-LAC Informal Ministerial Meeting in Berlin on 14 December, the Executive Vice-President (EVP) of the Commission and Commissioner for Trade, Mr Dombrovskis, the High Representative/Vice President (HRVP) of the Commission, Mr Borrell, and the Ministers of Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay, discussed a way forward for the ratification and entry into force of the EU-Mercosur Agreement.
They expressed their conviction that the Agreement should be implemented in such a way so as to provide benefits to both sides in the economic, social and environmental dimensions of sustainable development. They reiterated their commitment to effectively implement the international commitments set out in the Agreement, including the Paris Agreement.
To this end the EVP and Ministers instructed their officials to intensify contacts with a view to enhancing the exchange of information, increasing policy dialogue and identifying areas of cooperation, the latter in particular through the Team Europe Initiatives discussed during the Conference. This process and the actions should focus in particular on areas of public concern related to the Agreement, including deforestation.
The two sides expressed their conviction that their cooperation to establish the right conditions for the entry into force of the Agreement will enhance its potential to contribute to the shared overarching objective of sustainable development, observing the principles and guidance of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Declaración MERCOSUR-UE sobre Desarrollo Sostenible en la Reunión Ministerial Informal UE27-LAC
En ocasión de la Reunión Ministerial Informal de Desarrollo UE27-LAC llevada a cabo en Berlín el 14 de diciembre, el Vicepresidente Ejecutivo (VPE) de la Comisión y Comisionado de Comercio, Sr. Vladis Dombrovkis, el Alto Representante/Vice Presidente (ARVP), Sr. Josep Borell y los Ministros de Argentina, Brasil, Paraguay y Uruguay discutieron la manera de avanzar hacia la ratificación y entrada en vigor del Acuerdo UE-Mercosur.
Expresaron su convicción de que el Acuerdo debe ser implementado de manera tal de brindar beneficios para ambas Partes, en las dimensiones económico, social y medioambiental del desarrollo sostenible. Asimismo, reiteraron su compromiso para implementar en forma efectiva los compromisos internacionales expuestos en el Acuerdo, incluyendo el Acuerdo de Paris.
Con este objetivo el Vicepresidente Ejecutivo y los Ministros instruyeron a sus funcionarios a intensificar los contactos en aras de mejorar el intercambio de información, aumentando el diálogo de políticas y la identificación de áreas de cooperación, esto último a través del Equipo Europeo de Iniciativas discutido en la Conferencia. Este proceso y las acciones resultantes deben concentrarse en particular en áreas de preocupación pública vinculadas al Acuerdo, incluyendo la deforestación.
Ambas Partes expresaron su convicción de que la cooperación para establecer las condiciones adecuadas hacia la entrada en vigor del Acuerdo fortalecerán su potencial para alcanzar el objetivo primordial compartido de desarrollo sostenible, en cumplimiento de los principios y directrices de la Agenda 2030 de Desarrollo Sostenible.
