Renewal of Uruguayan identity card

Note: The issuance of identity cards for the first time can only be done at the National Directorate of Civil Identification, in Uruguay.

For people of legal age:

In case of loss or theft:

Legal Citizens:

Identity Card.
Citizenship Letter.
Civic Credential (when more than three years have passed since the issuance of the respective document).
Birth certificate registered in the Civil Registry.
Affidavit of not having acquired a third citizenship in the case of residents abroad.

For minors:

Expired or damaged identity card.
Valid Uruguayan birth certificate (issued less than 30 days).
Valid identity document of the responsible adult.
In case of loss or theft: police report to the Australian or New Zealand police, as applicable.

Minors must be accompanied by a legal guardian, who must authorize the procedure in person.

How to start the process?

Complete the application form (downloadable at the bottom of the page).
Gather the required documentation, depending on your situation (age, renewal or loss, legal citizenship, etc.)
Request an appointment by sending an email to cgsydney@mrree.gub.uy, attaching the form, the corresponding documentation, and indicating in the subject of the email the requested procedure.
Present yourself in person on the day of the renewal with complete documentation.
Cost: 28 Australian dollars (This amount may vary slightly depending on the current exchange rate between the Australian and US dollar). Payment is to be made on the day of your appointment via bank deposit in Australian dollars.
