Welcome

Background of the Embassy of Uruguay in Australia.

Uruguay established diplomatic relations with Australia on 15 December 1948 and, a decade later, on 15 May 1958, opened its first diplomatic mission in the country, with the rank of Legation. In 1964, in accordance with diplomatic customs and practices, the mission was elevated to the rank of Embassy, thus consolidating the bilateral ties between both countries.

From the Embassy of Uruguay in Canberra, Australia, Uruguay also maintains diplomatic relations with New Zealand, Fiji, and Timor-Leste.

Both Australia and New Zealand maintain their diplomatic relations with Uruguay through their Embassies located in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Fiji and Timor-Leste, in turn, do so through their Embassies located in Brasília, Brazil.
